Transparency & Affiliate Disclosure

At Merino Wool Gear, we focus exclusively on assessing Merino wool products. Our team is passionate about Merino wool’s performance, comfort, and sustainability benefits, and we take pride in supporting brands that use this material to create high-quality apparel and accessories.

So, in the spirit of transparency, we want to show you how we work.

Our Evaluation & Review Process

To fulfil our mission of finding the best Merino wool gear for you, we often rate individual products and compile buyer guides. While choosing which products to recommend, we utilize a variety of methods such hands-on product testing, data-driven comparisons, marketplace research, expert analysis, brand knowledge, and more—all to ensure that we provide you with the most accurate and authentic information possible. As the exact process varies based on clothing type, intended use, gender, season, etc., we tailor the criteria for review. For example, we may value factors like comfort more for next-to-skin apparel and less for outerwear. Here’s a bit more about information about how we review, rate, and recommend our products.

  • Thorough, in-depth product testing by experienced reviewers such as multi-day wears (many times consecutive), style guides, laundry analysis, stress tests, and more!
  • Data-driven analysis of features such as material composition, fabric weight, fiber diameter, fit type, value, etc.
  • Global market research to identify new & trending products, brand collections, and sustainability practices, user demographics, and major marketplace offerings
  • Customer feedback from social media, discussion forums, and product pages.
  • Expert knowledge of materials engineering, fashion design, fitness, and the outdoors.

It’s important to note that we cannot test all available products on our site (we’ve got our hands on about 50% of what we recommend). Nonetheless, we do our best to cover all the relevant products in detail through our comprehensive evaluation process as listed above.

Affiliate Disclosure

We use affiliate links to fund our mission of helping you discover the best Merino wool gear for your unique needs. If you choose to click on a product link and make a purchase, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you.

We recognize that affiliate relationships can sometimes lead to a financial bias favoring our partner brands. However, we make it our top priority to provide honest and impartial reviews based solely on the quality of the products, regardless of our affiliation with the brand. We are committed to only recommending products and brands that we genuinely believe in and use ourselves, and we take great pride in doing so.

Please note that we are an independent brand, and do not sponsor content. We purchase the large majority of our Merino wool clothing out of our own pocket, but do occasionally work with brands who may provide us gear to test. However, these relationships have no standing on the content of our reviews. If a product does not live up to our standards, we’ll tell you.
